Frequently asked questions
When do fire extinguishers expire?
This depends on the type of fire extinguisher. Dry chemicals have a service interval of 6 years. Pressurized water, carbon dioxide, and wet chemical have a service life of 5 years.
How long does emergency lighting stay on in a power outage?
This depends on the occupancy class of the building, for most applications emergency lighting units are required to illuminate a path to exit for 30 minutes.
Can I install the smoke alarm?
For best outcome, we recommend and only allow that qualified person install smoke alarms. Some have auxiliary device connected to them, such as sprinkler flow switches and strobes.
How often should I replace the smoke alarms?
It is required that both battery-operated and hard-wired alarms be replaced after 10 years from the manufactured date. With battery-operated alarms, batteries should be replaced at least once a year.
